Jones Beach State Park sits on a barrier island in Nassau County. In addition to being the most heavily visited beach on the East Coast along its 6.5 miles of sand, it also offers a half mile stillwater beach, boardwalk, two swimming pools, mini golf, an aerial adventure park and world-famous entertainment at the 15,000 seat Northwell Jones Beach Theater.
Old Westbury Gardens, the former estate of John Schaffer Phipps, was converted to a museum in 1959, is a Nassau County gem. The estate hosts events throughout the majority of the year with an annual Celtic Festival and Highland Games, Spring Dog Show, Classic Car shows, indoor and outdoor concerts, and children’s programs to name a few.
Sagamore Hill National Historic Site in Cove Neck on the North Shore of Nassau County served as President Theodore Roosevelt’s ‘summer white house’. Today, you can tour the estate, visit the museum or walk the property overlooking Cold Spring Harbor.
When you are in the mood for a little retail therapy the second largest mall in New York State, Roosevelt Field in Garden City should do the trick. With 243 stores anchored by Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom and J.C. Penny, a large food court with diverse offerings, eleven dine-in restaurant options, and various snacks throughout, and a movie theater everyone in your party should be happy. If you are looking for a more upscale experience, the Americana Mall in Manhasset is home to 60 high end shops including Gucci, Fendi, Dior, Ferragamo, Chanel, Montcler, London Jewelers, Tesla and many more.
Nassau County is also a golf lover’s dream with numerous pubic and private courses across the county. The most famous of the courses, The Bethpage Black hosted United States Open in 2002 and 2009, the Barclays in 2012 and 2016, the PGA Championship in 2019, and will host the Ryder Cup in 2025.
